Askham Hall Wedding Photography | Neil + Sarah
I always say that it’s people and emotions that make for great wedding photography. I’m coming around to the idea, that it certainly helps having an Askham Hall Wedding though. The historic Askham Hall in Penrith, Cumbria is truly a stunning backdrop. As wedding venues go I have to say it really has been one of my favourites to photograph at this year. Add to it a great couple, who are very much in love, and you have the recipe for a perfect day.
Askham Hall Wedding Photography | A Chance Meeting
I met Neil & Sarah back in late 2015. From the moment you meet them you can’t help but tell how in love they are. It radiates from them. An unexpected, chance meeting in 2014, changed Sarah’s life forever, when she met Neil. Sarah had literally just moved into her first home. The last thing she was expecting, was to meet her future husband in the local village bar, but destiny had other plans.

Fast forward to 2016. A slightly overcast start to the day saw me pulling upto begin photographing this stunning Askham Hall Wedding. Set in 40 acres of amazing gardens; the Grade 1 listed Askham Hall really has the wow factor. Pulling up, I found myself gawping open mouthed. I was totally in awe of how beautiful the grounds were. The little butterflies I get when I know I’m in for an amazing day started, and boy I wasn’t disappointed.
Askham Hall Wedding Photography | A Relaxed & Romantic Vintage Wedding
Normally when I rock up at a wedding, there is a degree of panic in the air. The buzz of nerves, people frantically running around, and a general amount of chaos, that goes with a wedding day. For me, it’s of course very much a regular experience. So you might say I was a little shocked, when I was greeted by a serene and grinning Sarah laughing with her friends and family as if it was a regular Saturday morning. Sarah, really is the most relaxed bride I have worked with to date. If Sarah was remotely nervous, she didn’t show any signs of it.
Set in the grounds of Askham Hall is the beautiful Bank Barn. Decorated with fairy lights it formed an elegant and romantic backdrop to Neil & Sarah’s ceremony
The day brightened up, producing one of those typically english summer days. You know, the ones that make you think of Pimm’s, Cricket, and strawberries & cream. Consequently, the amazing weather allowed guests to enjoy the games Neil & Sarah had arranged outside for them. I must say I always love when my couples take my advice. Sarah & Neil loved my suggestion to move the speeches outside. The day was simply too nice to stay inside, so both they and their guests could benefit from the stunning sun.
They chose to have their portraits in the stunning grounds of Askham Hall, and frankly who could blame them, especially on such a stunning day.
The meal and reception were also in Bank Barn at Askham Hall, which provided a great venue for the couple to relax and enjoy the rest of their evening.
Sarah & Neil, thank you so much for letting me share in your vintage wedding. It really was a very relaxing and romantic day. Furthermore, you, your friends and family were all amazing. I wish you all the very best for the future.
